Cambridge City council called a brief special meeting to approve a vehicle purchase.
Council approved the $24,500 purchase of a used 2017 Ford F-250 crew cab, 3/4-ton truck from Moe’s Auto Sales in Spiceland.
Joe Webb, superintendent of public works, told councilors during the Feb. 17 meeting that the pickup truck had previously been used by a gas company. He said it runs well, has new tires and is clean.
Council called the special meeting instead of waiting until its next monthly meeting on March 9 to avoid losing the vehicle to another buyer.
Clerk-Treasurer Sherry Ervin said the truck likely will be used as another snowplow.
Cambridge City has prioritized updating its aging fleet this year, and a theft made carrying out that plan more urgent.
One of the town’s snowplows was stolen late Jan. 13 or early Jan. 14 from outside the town garage at 152 S. Green St. The old white Chevy 2500 with a Western Pro Plus 8-foot plow was last traced through license plate readers to be in the Lafayette area.
Those with information about the theft are encouraged to call Cambridge City Police Department at 765-478-1231 or email cambridgecitypolice@hotmail.com.
