Wayne County Health Department announced today (Thursday) that schools within Wayne County will be closed beginning on March 23 as an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Currently there are no confirmed cases of the virus within Wayne County, according to a statement from Richmond Community Schools.
Centerville-Abington Schools, Northeastern Wayne Schools, Nettle Creek Schools, Richmond Community Schools, Western Wayne Schools, Seton Catholic Schools and Community Christian School, have announced they will be closed beginning March 23 and will resume school April 13.
“We believe that closing schools until April 13, 2020 is in the best interest for our students, staff and community,” according to a statement from RCS. “This will minimize any exposure in large groups and will allow plenty of time to have all buildings and buses cleaned.”
School officials acknowledge this is a fluid situation and residents will might have questions. They note more information will be forthcoming.
