Seven bids to demolish the former Elder-Beerman building and pedestrian skywalk ranged from about $500,000 to nearly $1.2 million.
The bids were opened during the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting Aug. 15 and taken under advisement.
The seven bidders were:
- Gentry Demolition LLC of Cincinnati, $503,560.
- Green City Demolition of Cincinnati, $670,960.
- O’Rourke Wrecking Co. of Paragon, Indiana, $711,000.
- Baumann Enterprises Inc. of Cleveland, $915,000.
- Dore & Associates of Bay City, Michigan, $1,084,600.
- Green Demolition Contractors Inc. of Chicago, $1,153,486.
- Renascent Inc. of Indianapolis, $1,195,000.
In addition, two bids for asbestos abatement were received: $13,395 from EnviroWorx Services Inc. of Cincinnati and $25,650 from SSI Services LLC of Indianapolis.
Other business
- Board members approved 3-0 a change order for the Loop bicycle path project because of survey errors. The change order adds $5,188.49 in cost that Clark Dietz Inc. will repay to the city.
- Richmond Police Department requested the board approve Animal Control Officer Desiree Durbin as a special police officer. The designation enables her to enforce state laws she otherwise would not be able to enforce. The request passed 3-0.
- RPD also received 3-0 approval for a $49,279 contract with Safety Systems to provide equipment, including emergency lighting, cage partitions and siren systems, for eight new police cars.
- The board voted 3-0 to approve Mayor Ron Oler’s request for a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ for the mayor’s office fleet. The contract is for $49,082.75 with Wetzel.
- Richmond Fire Department received 3-0 approval to establish a hiring list including Keegan Bane, Landyn Blanton and Tristan Taylor.
