Western Wayne Schools’ board approved a bid package for the next phase of Lincoln Middle/High School’s renovation.
The board approved the base bid and alternates from Brumbaugh Construction of Arcanum, Ohio, during its one-topic special meeting on Tuesday, May 13.
The board’s action gives David Inderstrodt, owner of Richmond-based Maze Design, permission to prepare a contract for Brumbaugh to update portions of the high school building.
Maze is providing architectural and engineering services. Brumbaugh aims to hire local subcontractors when possible, board members said.
This phase of the work will cost $2.9 million. The new bond issue comes as a previous bond issue expires, so property owners won’t see a tax increase.
During the May 14 board meeting, member Brent Fortman thanked Inderstrodt and Sodexo’s general manager at WWS, LHS alumnus Matt Webb, for their efforts in coordinating the construction.
According to project documents, renovation and interior upgrades are planned for the classroom wing, the shared cafeteria, media center and other support spaces. Some of the building’s roofs were previously replaced, and this phase includes replacing the remaining ballasted roofs.
Brumbaugh is currently renovating LMHS’ indoor athletic facilities. District officials have said the athletic area’s work took place first to reduce interference with academics during the school day.
Improvements such as new paint, flooring and ceilings in classrooms, hallways and restrooms were finished last summer in the middle school.
