Names and photos of Western Wayne veterans are being sought for new banners.

Cambridge City Chamber of Commerce is gathering submissions before Oct. 24 so the banners can be hung along Main Street before Veterans Day.

The 36-by-24 double-sided vinyl banners can be made to honor any past or present Western Wayne resident currently or previously in the military and discharged under general or honorable conditions.

Banners will be displayed until Veterans Day 2024. In future years, they will be displayed from May to November.

Each banner is $90 plus $90 for mounting hardware if desired. A limited number of sponsorships can be requested to offset the full cost.

American Legion Post 169 donated $1,000 to kick off the Hometown Heroes program. Additional donations are welcome.

Nominators must provide a high-resolution military photo (8-by-10 is preferable) plus the service member’s name, branch/division, rank, years of service or service era. Special notes about being a prisoner of war, killed or missing in action or awards received can be added if space permits.

Applicants also must provide a redacted copy of the veteran’s DD214 form. They can contact American Legion Post 169 for assistance in obtaining the DD214.

Banner forms are available in five Cambridge City locations – Golay Community Center, American Legion Post 169, town hall, library and First Bank – and on the chamber’s Facebook page.
