Wayne County bands continued testing their skills in weekend competitions leading up to Indiana State Fair Band Day.

The weekend contests are Central Indiana Track Show Association events.

Portland

Hagerstown and Lincoln competed in the Jay County Lions Band Contest in Portland on Friday, July 18.

Centerville had planned to compete, but when wet conditions meant a stand-still performance would be required, the Blue Regiment opted to just rehearse for four hours that afternoon at home. Two other bands withdrew as well.

The Tigers and Golden Eagles faced eight other eastern Indiana schools (Randolph Southern, Winchester, Spirit of Muncie, Yorktown, Eastbrook, Blackford County, Jay County and Anderson).

With a score of 23.925 points, Hagerstown led local schools with sixth place, which was a quarter of a tenth of a point behind Yorktown.

Spirit Muncie finished first, scoring 32.175.

Lincoln earned eighth place with 19.200 points.

Muncie

Northeastern, Richmond, Hagerstown, Winchester and Henry County Crimson Crusaders, which includes Tri Jr.-Sr. High School, were among the 23 competitors at the Muncie Spirit of Sound contest on Saturday, July 19.

Earning 72.000 points, Richmond finished fourth.

Spirit of Muncie won with 77.888 points.
