Two high school bands finished in the Top 5 of weekend competitions leading to the 76th Indiana State Fair Band Day on Friday, Aug. 4.

Centerville’s Blue Regiment finished fourth of 25 bands in Friday’s Anderson Tartan Tournament of Bands, behind Kokomo, Spirit of Muncie and Anderson. Other local competitors were Randolph Southern, which placed 12th, and Henry County Crimson Crusaders including Tri, at 15th.

The following evening, Richmond finished third and Centerville was fifth of 20 bands at Saturday’s Drums of Winchester.

That contest’s Top 5 also included winner Kokomo, second-place Anderson and fourth-place Jay County.

Of local interest, Winchester placed sixth, Northeastern was ninth, Randolph Southern was 11th; Henry County was 13th, Hagerstown was 15th and Lincoln was 20th.

Bands from Wayne, Henry, Randolph and Fayette counties will be among those in the state fair’s field of 37 bands.

Area schools’ performance times include Hagerstown, 10:03 a.m.; Lincoln, 10:12 a.m.; Henry County, 10:54 a.m., Northeastern, 11:30 a.m.; Richmond, 11:57 a.m.; Jay County, 2:09 p.m.; Centerville, 2:18 p.m.; Connersville, 2:27 p.m.; Winchester, 2:36 p.m.; Randolph Southern, 3:36 p.m.; and Monroe Central, 3:54 p.m.

Those interested can listen on local radio stations WKBV 1490AM and Star 98.3 FM. Links for online listening can be found at indianatrackmarchingbands.com, where full results from preliminary contests also can be found.

Daytime awards will be announced around 4:30 p.m. and the Sweet 16 will compete at 8 p.m.
