On Thursdays, several women gather in Carol Strock Wasson’s art studio. They share the enjoyment and benefits of painting and support from one another.
Strock Wasson, an internationally distinguished artist who leads the group, says they’re bonded by their resilience through life’s toughest challenges such as divorce and loved ones’ deaths.
“Despite the hardships they’ve faced, they continue to channel their experiences into their art, painting as both a form of personal expression and healing,” she said.
The oil and pastel paintings in MacDowell Gallery were created by Jenelle Burris, Greens Fork; Sally Alexander and Annette Warfel of Richmond; Joanie Paschal, Winchester; Betty Knapp, Anderson; Jean Selanders, Greenville, Ohio; and Strock Wasson of Union City.
Individually, the women have earned awards and display their work in galleries across the state.
Their artwork is on display through April 30 in Reid Health’s MacDowell Gallery. The exhibit, on the second floor of the outpatient care center, is called “Artistic Expressions of Thursday Art Therapy Group: A remarkable collective of personal expression and healing.”
