Inspectors discovered seven critical and 12 noncritical violations during recent routine inspections of local food establishments.
The violations included unsanitary employee practices and the presence of dirt, mold, food debris, gnats and flies in food and bar areas.
Establishments are required to post the most recent routine inspection form adjacent to the front public entrance for potential customers to view.
Wayne County Health Department employees collected these concerns between Nov. 5-23, 2024.
Critical Violations
- Nov. 21: Clara’s Pizza King, 1224 N.W. Fifth St., Richmond. One critical: Six flies and five gnats observed in food prep and utensil washing areas. To be corrected by Dec. 1.
- Nov. 15: Forest Hills Country Club, 2169 S. 23rd St., Richmond. Two critical: No date mark on reach-in cooler food; No lid on employee drink. Both were corrected. Four noncritical: Mold-like substance on ice machine. To be corrected that day. Dirty floors. To be corrected by Nov. 25. Dirty walk-in cooler fan guards. To be corrected by Nov. 25. No test strips provided at time of inspection. To be corrected by Nov. 25.
- Nov. 14: Old Richmond Inn, 138 S. Fifth St., Richmond. Two critical: 11 gnats near ice bin at bar. To be corrected by Nov. 24. Unlabeled contents on a squeeze bottle near coffee maker and hand sink. Corrected. Three noncritical: Open trays of fish/oysters, beef chub/wrapped pork thawing at room temperature near dishwashing sink, rather than via an approved method. Corrected. Single service cups reused to scoop ready-to-eat items at salad prep area. Corrected. Chipping paint over dishwashing station ceiling; Separating wall covering near ovens. Both to be corrected by Dec. 14.
- Nov. 13: Rose City Shell/Toasted, 1304 Industries Road, Richmond. Two critical: Improperly labeled cleaner. Corrected. Employee drinks without lids or in a closed container. To be corrected that day.
Noncritical Violations
- Nov. 20: Arby’s, 1534 N. State Road 1, Cambridge City. Two noncritical: Employee without hair restraint working with exposed food. Corrected. No paper towels at hand washing station. Corrected.
- Nov. 20: One and 70 Shell, 1598 N. State Road 1, Cambridge City. One noncritical: Microwave contained food debris. Corrected.
- Nov. 13: Ann and the Pigs: 4644 Park Elwood Road, Richmond. One noncritical: Test kit of quaternary sanitizer not provided. To be corrected by Dec. 13.
- Nov. 12: Stone Hearth Café, 2131 N. Centerville Road, Centerville. One noncritical: Dusty/dirty wall behind sign. To be corrected by Nov. 22.

Inspections
Wayne County Health Department inspects local stores, restaurants, schools and other food providers at least twice per year. If any critical violations are found, inspectors follow up to ensure the establishment has made the necessary corrections. They also make visits if members of the public submit complaints.
