Gary E. Williams, 76, of Mt. Summit passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Henry County Community Health. He was born on August 29, 1946 in New Castle, a son of Lloyd and Daphne (Rifner) Williams.
The definition of a small-town guy, Gary was liked by everyone, a father figure to some, could always be counted on, didn’t talk unless it was important or really funny, loved cars and helping others fix theirs. Gary was a 1964 graduate of Mt. Summit High School and at the age of 50, he retired from General Motors and Delco Remy in Anderson following 30 plus years of service. He was also a veteran of the Indiana National Guard.
Gary had a love for cars; he was a “car guy” that could fix almost anything or knew someone that could, if he couldn’t. He enjoyed attending car shows and restoring late model cars; he just recently finished his 1965 Impala, he’s had since 1988, driving it for the first time just last week.
Gary also enjoyed camping and hiking, something that he and Dian have done since their children were 1 ½ years old and still enjoyed up until just a couple years ago. Over the years, they have visited numerous campgrounds across the country and hiked many trails.
Gary is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dian Williams of Mt. Summit; mother, Daphne Williams of New Castle; children, Todd (Lisa) Williams of Sulphur Springs, Leslie (Dave) Stidham of Westfield; granddaughter, Natalie Stidham of Westfield; sisters, Karann (Melvin) Hawks of Mt. Summit and Kathy McCall of New Castle; sister-in-law, Linda Williams of Mt. Summit; brothers-in-law, Larry (Lynda) Nixon of Vero Beach, FL and Michael (Gwen) Lucas of Hudson, IN; several nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Williams and a brother, Keith Williams.
Services will be held at 1:00pm Sunday, October 16, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Mark Herbkersman officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 2:00pm-6:00pm at the funeral home. You may express condolences or share memories of Gary at www.hinsey-brown.com.
