NEW CASTLE- James Baumgartner, 74, passed away Thursday afternoon May 2nd, 2019 at Addison Place in New Castle, Indiana.
Jim was born June 9th, 1944 in Henry County, north of New Castle, Indiana to the late Earl Joe and Avis Marie (Rogers) Baumgartner.
James was raised in the New Lisbon area, where he graduated from New Lisbon High School. After graduation, he joined the Army and served his country in Vietnam from July 21, 1965 until the time of his honorable discharge on July 22, 1967.
After serving our country, Jim returned to his job at Chrysler Corporation, New Castle Plant, as a machine operator and retired after 40 years of service.
He was a member of the Hagerstown American Legion and was a Reserve Officer for the Henry County Sherriff’s Department.
James is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Christopher A. Baumgartner; and a brother, Joe Lee Baumgartner.
Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda Sue Back of Indianapolis; 2 grandchildren, Brian Back of Indianapolis and Courtney Smith of Kentucky; 1 great grandson, Jonah; 1 brother, David Baumgartner of Rochester, Minnesota.
Following cremation, Graveside Services with military honors conducted by the Hagerstown American Legion will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday June 9th, 2019 at the New Lisbon Cemetery in New Lisbon, Indiana.
