Jerome C. “Jerry” Lampert, 96, of Connersville, passed away Monday morning, May 9, 2022 at Lincolnshire Place, an assisted living facility in Muncie, Indiana.
He was born on January 27, 1926 in Aurora, Indiana, one of four children of Clarence and Ann Pelgen Lampert.
He attended school in Batesville, Indiana, graduating from Batesville High School in 1944. A veteran of World War II, Jerry served in the United States Navy from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. Returning to Indiana from his military service, he entered Purdue University graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.
On September 3, 1949, he was married in Batesville to Mary Margaret Klug of Batesville. Mrs. Lampert passed away December 8, 2006.
A local businessman, he owned and operated Economy Drug Store in Connersville for over 36 years. He sold the drug store in 1991 but continued to work part time as a pharmacist until he was 81.
A member of St. Gabriel Church, Jerry was active for many years singing in the choir and serving as Cantor, Reader, and as a member of the church’s school board. In addition to his involvement in his church, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus #861, Purdue Alumni, Elks, American Legion, past president of the Connersville Kiwanis Club, former vice president and board member of the Connersville Chamber of Commerce, and past president of the Downtown Merchant’s Association. He was also named Citizen of the Year by the Connersville Chamber of Commerce in 1987 and was designated Sagamore of the Wabash by the State of Indiana.
In his leisure, Jerry enjoyed playing golf, bowling, yard work, and traveling.
Survivors include three daughters, Carol (Todd) Schuett of Carol Stream, Illinois, Susan (John) Wulff of Muncie, Indiana, and Mary (Fred) Copley of Connersville; four grandchildren, Steve Stecher of Key West, Florida, Christy Stecher of Sagle, Idaho, Michael Wulff of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Natalie (Dan) Young of Indianapolis, Indiana; two great granddaughters, Madeleine Hoffman of Northbrook, Illinois and Guinevere Dial of Williams, Iowa; one sister, Rose Ann Lampert of Milford, Ohio; one brother, James Lampert of Cincinnati, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Margaret Lampert; his parents; a son, Michael Lampert, who passed away June 23, 1980; and a brother, Thomas Lampert.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Dustin Boehm at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Saint Gabriel Church. Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home where the rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Burial with military honors conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council will be in Dale Cemetery.
