Norman E. Smith, 79 of New Paris, Ohio died Monday, April 25, 2022. Born October 5, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio son of the late Charles F. & Ivonette V. (Mills) Smith. Norman was proud to be a Jefferson Bronco, a 1962 graduate of Jefferson Township High School in Dayton, OH. and he excelled in sports and went to the Ohio State finals for 2 years in a row for pole vaulting. A founding member of the Over The Hill Gang Car Club. He had worked at McCall’s Corporation in Dayton, OH for many years until it closed; Parker-Hannifin Corporation for 20 years in Eaton, OH retiring in 2004. He and his wife Sharon, received the “Preble County’s Outstanding Senior Citizen’s Award” in 2013. Norman loved his family and friends. He enjoyed working on his street rods and going to car shows and swap meets. Preceded in death by brother: Charles E. Smith in 1992. Survived by wife of 36 years: Sharon K. (Moses) Smith; children: Bob C. & Daniel C. Smith; Elizabeth I. Smith & Justin Hall; sister: Patricia Bell; granddaughter: Lauren M. Smith; several nieces and nephews. Visitation 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Barnes Funeral Home – 220 E. Main St., Eaton, OH. Funeral service 10:00 AM Friday April 29, 2022, at the funeral home with Pastor Rodney Dunn officiating. Interment Fairview Cemetery in Gratis, Ohio.
