Dorothy Pauline “Dot” Thornburg, age 79, Richmond, went to be with the Lord on Monday morning, March 28, 2022. She was born on February 12, 1943 in Richmond, Indiana to Virgil R. and Lillian G. (Clark) DeLay. Dorothy was a Richmond High School graduate, class of 1961 and a longtime member of Whitewater Christian Church. She was married to Stephen Thornburg in Richmond, Indiana on March 24, 1963. Dorothy was an active youth group leader for many years and her passion for music lead her to become the music director at church. She was one of the founders and a member of “Country Strings”, a dulcimer group. Her love was mountain dulcimer; she both taught and performed at dulcimer festivals in the Country Strings group. Dorothy also enjoyed fine art collectables and anything to do with dairy cow figurines, she had quite the collection herself. Dot was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She will be dearly missed by many.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Stephen; children Gregory Thornburg and Nicole Carithers; grandson Caleb Carithers; nephew Virgil DeLay; one great niece and 3 great nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings Virgil J. “Sonny” DeLay and Elizabeth Armstrong.
Services for Dorothy will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday April 2, 2022 at Whitewater Christian Church. Pastor Randy Nash will officiate. Burial will follow in Goshen Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday April 2, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. at Whitewater Christian Church. Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary is handling arrangements.
