Richard Larry “Rich” Young, 75, passed away Saturday morning March 12, 2022 at Golden Rule Nursing Home in Richmond, Indiana where he had been a resident for the past four days. A son of the late Robert Lee and Mamie Alice (Cate) Young, Rich was born in Dalton, Georgia on March 30, 1946. Following graduation from high school, Rich enlisted in the United States Army on March 1, 1966 and served in Vietnam. He decided to make the Army his career and retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class on November 1, 1990 after twenty four years of honorable service. During this time he had been stationed in the United States, Germany and Korea. He spent several years at the Connersville National Guard Armory as Armory Custodian and had also been employed by the Fayette County Sheriff Department. Rich also owned and operated Big “A” Autoparts Store in Rushville for several years. Rich was a car enthusiast and had a passion for street rod automobiles. He built several and collected a few. He referred to his wife, Karaline, as “Puddin” and together they would regularly attend car shows throughout the summer, sometimes two or three in a weekend. Rich was proud of his mechanically sound autos and he and “Puddin” would drive them on trips throughout the country. He was President for Life of the Outlaws Car Club, President of the Rodfathers Car Club, member of over twenty years of the National Street Rod Association and a member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife of nearly thirty years, the former Karaline R. Cherry. They were married on August 7, 1992 in Louisville, Kentucky; 2 daughters, Michelle (Jerry) McIntosh and Kimberly (Travis) Guthrie; 4 grandchildren, Makayla “Mabel”, Olivia “Ollie”, Connor and Cameron; 1 great granddaughter, Etta; 1 brother, Michael Young; several nieces and nephews.

Rich was preceded in death by his step-son, Mark Dyrstad; 5 siblings, Felton and Charlie Young, Barbara Lee Razor, Carolyn Colvin and Mary Alice Keller.

Visitation will be on Wednesday March 16, 2022 from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 2 p.m. at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Rich’s friend, Mike Bare will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin.
