Serena Denise Short, age 53, of Webster, Indiana, died Sunday, December 5, 2021, at home surrounded by her family.
Born September 15, 1968, in Dayton, Ohio, to Jimmy and Bonnie Hayes Cook, Serena lived in Wayne County, Indiana, most of her life. She appreciated art and enjoyed painting. Serena loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 31 years, William C. “Chris” Short; children, Brandi (Chris) Walter of Centerville, Indiana, Cristal Cook and Serena (Chad) Hill, both of Richmond, Brandon (Kirsten) Short of Greens Fork, Indiana, and William Cook of Richmond; 20 grandchildren; mother, Bonnie Cook of Richmond; siblings, Ruth (Bill) Apple of St. Petersburg, Florida, John (Maryann) Cook and Jackson Cook, both of Richmond, Marty (Katie) Cook of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Hope (Mike) Baker of New Paris, Ohio; stepbrothers, Jay (Linda) Cook of New Paris and Chris Cook of Kanawha, Iowa; mother-in-law, Patricia Stanley of Virginia; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father; stepfather, Russell Cook; brothers, Jimmie and Jamie Cook; and fathers-in-law, Neil Short and Vernon “Pappy” Stanley.
Visitation for Serena Denise Short will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Chaplin Rick Alvey officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
