RICHMOND, Ind. – Barbara P. Lowmaster, age 80, of Richmond, Indiana, died Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at The Springs of Richmond.
Born April 25, 1938, in Troy, Missouri, to Charles B. and Juanita Lay Gerdemann Kennedy, Barbara moved to this community in January 1977. She graduated from Buchanan High School in Troy, Missouri, was a diploma graduate of Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri, and earned her bachelor’s degree in health science from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.
Barbara retired from the Richmond State Hospital in 2000, where she served as the Director of Quality Management for 23 years. She served on the YWCA board in Richmond and the National Association for Healthcare Quality. Additionally, Barbara was a volunteer at Reid Health for over 10 years, helping various departments meet departmental accreditation. She enjoyed needlework, gardening, and golf.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Gary K. Lowmaster; daughter, Karen B. (Fred) Smallwood of Richmond; son, Bradley F. Perry of Avon, Indiana; granddaughter, Jessica N. (Raymond) Tiemann Richardson of New Paris, Ohio; cousins; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Ronald F. Perry.
Memorial visitation for Barbara P. Lowmaster will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2019, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Memorial service will follow at 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2019, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Chaplain Jon Hudnall and Rev. Scott Bell officiating. A private entombment will be in the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
