Betty J. Thorman, age 99, of Richmond, Indiana, died Thursday, December 2, 2021, at The Villas at Springhurst in Greenfield.
Born July 24, 1922, in Richmond, Indiana, to Ray F. and Doris Isabelle Poinier Harvey, Betty was a life-long resident of this community. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1940. Betty was the former co-owner of Robert W. Thorman Company, Inc. along with her husband, Robert, and served as secretary and treasurer. She was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Betty was also a 50-year member of Eastern Star, Chapter #49 and a member of Altrusa International, Inc., VFW Auxiliary, and the Tarum Shrine Ladies. She enjoyed bowling and loved animals, especially her beloved English bulldogs.
Survivors include her daughters, Dorothy Brandon and her husband, Jerry, of Richmond and Tammy Shendler and her husband, Kim, of Greenfield; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert W. Thorman, who died June 24, 2009; parents; and brother, Malcolm P. Harvey.
Visitation for Betty J. Thorman will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Chip Belanga officiating. Burial will be in Lutherania Cemetery.
