Bessie R. Taylor, 97, passed away peacefully on Dec. 25, 2018, at Forest Park Health Campus.
She was born in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, to Hawley and Margaret Mullins on Sept. 9, 1921. The youngest of six children, Bessie moved to Richmond, Indiana, in the mid 1920s.
Bessie was married to Maurice G. Mantock only a few years when he was killed in action during WWII. She married Wilmer Winton “Bill” Taylor. The owners of multiple restaurants, they settled in Cambridge City to raise their children.
Bessie was a caregiver by nature. Few people walked through her door that weren’t offered a hot meal and beverage. Her loving nature and huge heart left a lasting imprint on all who knew her. Lovingly called “The Boss” by her family, she loved nothing more than laughing and having a wonderful time. Her smile was well known and adored.
Survivors include her daughter Barbara Toschlog of Lancaster, Ohio, son Andrew Taylor of Greens Fork, granddaughter Drucilla Bales, whom she raised, of Richmond, many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who she loved and cherished dearly. Also, a special friend, Susan Wickes, whose visits brought Bessie so much joy and love.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Billie Jane Singleton of Divide, CO, her parents, siblings and many loved ones. The family would like to extend their love and gratitude to the staff at Forest Park Health Campus for the excellent care provided to Bessie during her two-year stay.
