Iraida R. Davis-Leitch, 90, a longtime resident of the Modoc area, passed away at her home on Sunday, December 16, 2018 with her family.
She was born in Albany on December 22, 1927 to Ray and Bonnie Reed. She was Valedictorian of Roll High School in 1945. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Education and a Master’s degree in Library Science from Ball State University. For many years she traveled the world with her husband during his active duty in the US Navy. Those travels included being based in Cuba, where she was a school teacher.
Iraida worked as Librarian at Union School Corporation and was the Director of the Farmland Library. Along with her husband, Dan Davis, she owned and operated Davis Christmas Tree Farm for many years.
She was a proud member of the Farmland Bridge Club that was instrumental in saving The Randolph County Courthouse, with raising awareness with The Courthouse Girls calendar. (Mrs. December) Iraida was a proud and enthusiastic supporter of the Union Rockets and Grammy to many of them. Her hobbies included quilting, knitting, puzzles, petting someone else’s dog, and drinking wine.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories two children, Bill Davis (Melody) of Parker City and Laura Phillips of Anderson. Grandchildren; Christie (Jared) Ogden, Ryan (Shae) Davis, Alex, Andrew, Abby and Anna Mason. Eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandra Farr (Don) of Hartford City; a sister-in-law, Doris Reed. A very special and dear caretaker, turned family member (keeper) Lisa Shook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dan Davis; her second husband, Gene Leitch; two brothers, Waldo Reed and Vern Reed and a sister, Bonnie K.
Services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 22, at Culberson Funeral Home, Hagerstown. Christie Ogden will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 PM on Friday and after 10 AM on Saturday.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Farmland Public Library or make time to take your Mother or Grandmother out to dinner.
