Nuell Ellison Garner, age 74, a New Castle resident, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at his residence. He was born August 2, 1947, in New Castle, Indiana, a son of the late Jesse L. and Clariene (Teal) Garner.
Nuell was a graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School and served for the US Army in the Vietnam War. He continued to serve at the New Castle Armory National Guard. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in 2003 and was a member of the UAW local#371. He drove a semi for Chaquita Banana on the downtimes at Chrysler. He worked at the B & G Gym of New Castle in the 80’s where he trained other body builders. Nuell also competed in body building contests where he brought home trophies and certificates. Nuell was a man that anyone could go to for advice. He never turned anyone away. He had a very special place in his heart for all his nieces and nephews, as they had for him. He will be missed by so many.
Nuell loved animals. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, listening to the gospel and walking his dog. Over the years, he assisted raising several children and loved doing so. He was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Stearns Garner; a son, Jeffrey (Dawn) Owens; a daughter, Lana Owens; a grandson, Cole Owens; granddaughters, Deserae (Tyler) Grimes and Nakai Rybolt; great-grandchildren, Zaiya, Arias and Ateara; brother, Kelly (Margie) Garner; sister-in-laws, Connie (Joe Cross) Sexton, Rhonda Lacy, June Haskett, Judith Starnes, Mary (Rick West) Ballenger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Huel Garner and Leon Garner; two sisters, Jessie Helena Garner Clark, Patsy Brumfiel; brother-in-laws, Robert Brumfiel, Steve Lacy, Jerry Haskett; six nephews, Christopher “Bo” Clark, Tony Ballenger, Tony Garner, Daniel Scott Sexton, Randall Wilkinson, Carson Clark; one niece, Stephanie Renee Clark.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 22, 2021 at Macer-Hall-Marcum Funeral Home, 2011 East Broad St., New Castle with burial to follow at South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m., until service time Friday at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the Army VFW and the American Legion.
