Elizabeth (Marino) Sonsini died October 13, 2021, at Reid Health surrounded by her family. She was born April 9, 1930, to Gregorio and Lucia Marino, in Tocco da Casauria, Italy.
In 1947, She ventured from Italy to America to marry James “Tony” Sonsini. She was married for 64 years and leaves behind her children Mary Siler, Antoinette “Annie” Sonsini, James (Sue) Sonsini Jr., Barbara (Nick)Wood, and John Sonsini; grandchildren Marc (Jill) and Marci Siler, Barry (Chrisanne) and Jamie Thomas, Tony (Dawn) and Angela (Remy) Sonsini, Jill Thompson and Staci (Nick) Eufemi; great-grandchildren Kinsey and Lissa Siler, Kylie and Hunter Thomas, Madison, Ashtyn, and Kennedy Sonsini.
She also leaves behind sisters Maria Galante, Antonina Di Pietrantonio, Concetta Ferella, Giovanna Massarotti, all from Melbourne, Australia, and many nieces and nephews.
Along with the role of matriarch, she was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Italian Ladies Club, American Italian Lodge, YMI, and VFW Auxiliary.
Elizabeth was well known for her generosity and warm heart. Her kitchen always smelled of basil and garlic. She had an abundance of family and friends, all of which were welcome at her table. Besides being an amazing cook, she enjoyed crocheting, gardening, but most of all spending time with her family. Her family was the joy of her life!
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Eustachio and Antonio Marino, sisters Laura Smarrelli, and Pacina Sanelli, son-in-law Gorman Siler, grandson Brian Thomas, sisters-in-law Mary Williams and Clara McLaughlin.
In lieu of public viewing, a mass in Elizabeth’s honor will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on October 18, 2021, at 11 am. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the Hospice Staff and all the Caregivers, at Reid Health, for their kindness and special care.
