Mary Esther Carpenter Stump, 88, of Richmond, died unexpectedly on September 9, 2021, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born May 19, 1933, in Richmond to Miles and Edna Kendall Shute Shlangen and lived here all her life. She was a homemaker and member of the First Friends Meeting. She enjoyed attending musical events at the Midwest Jamboree.
Survivors include her three children Warren (Susan) Carpenter of Richmond, Gary (Rebecca) Carpenter of Richmond, Sheila (Steve) Thiel of Fishers, six grandchildren Nikki Sugas (Chris Campbell), Jennifer (Joe) Jennings, Brittney (Cory) Rush, Amy (Scottie) Pipenger, and Olivia and Preston Thiel, eleven great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Mary is preceded in death by her husbands, Cecil Carpenter and Herbie Stump, one granddaughter Candus Carpenter, and her sister Kay Carpenter.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home. The burial will be in Goshen Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
