HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – A forensic autopsy is being conducted after human remains were found in a Hagerstown field on Monday, Oct. 1.
Shortly before 2 p.m., Wayne County Emergency Communications received a report of human remains being located in a field at 15873 Turnpike Road, which is across from the town’s park.
Officers from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded and located the remains and secured the scene, according to Sheriff Jeff Cappa. Investigators from the sheriff’s office then began their work.
The local sheriff’s office has been assisted by Indiana State Police, Wayne County Coroner’s Office and the University of Indianapolis’ Human Identification Center Field Team.
Cappa said the remains have been transported to the Montgomery, Ohio, Forensic Medical Center by the Wayne County Coroner’s office for a forensic autopsy, and that the case remains under investigation.
