Jerry James McFarland, 77 passed away on July18, 2021.
Jerry was born on February 20, 1944, to James Hubert McFarland and Louise McFarland Bird in New Castle, Indiana. He is a graduate of Hagerstown High School and has a Bachelor of Science from Ball State University in Urban Regional Planning and Political Science and holds a Master of Arts in Communication Arts from the University of West Florida.
Jerry dedicated 24 years of his life to military service, which concluded with him retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. His military career began with 3 years of Army Service including service in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, and 21 years of service with United States Air Force.
Jerry also worked as a Federal Investigator, University Center Director, and Group Supervisor in his civilian life.
Jerry enjoyed photography, spending time with his family, bible study at First United Methodist Church and participating in a writer’s group called Writer’s Round Table at the Boerne Public Library, and wrote a published fictional historical novel called “His Name is Jacob Harris.”
Jerry is survived by his wife of 37 years, Chong of San Antonio, TX , 2 children, Jason of San Antonio, TX, and Michael (from Dianne McFarland) of Greenwood, Indiana, brother, Ron McFarland, , and several grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by his oldest son, James McFarland.
Arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Park, in San Antonio, Texas,78218 for funeral services held August 2, 2021. Jerry was buried with Military Honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
