David graduated from New Castle High School. He then worked at New Castle Engineering for many years but later worked and retired from Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo following more than 20 years of employment. After retirement, David enjoyed sitting on his front porch visiting with neighbors and family. He was a member of the former Broad Street Alliance and New Testament Church of Christ for many years. He was known for his silly sense of humor. David enjoyed gunsmithing, building cannons, listening to music, being around family, but mostly, spending time with his granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Patricia “Patty” Yergin; children, Jonathan (Jenny) Yergin of New Castle and Michael (Rachel) Yergin of Indianapolis; his mother, Betty Yergin of New Castle; grandchildren, Charlotte, Betty “Bee”, Magnolia and Brier; brother, Jeffrey (Cathy) Yergin of Middletown; brothers-in-law, Ed (Betsy) Davis of Hagerstown, Rusty (Marta) Davis and Jim (Mindy) Davis, both of New Castle; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Charles & Barbara Davis.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Paul Gearhardt & Brian Solomon officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery.
