Helen Elizabeth (Dann) VanDevender, age 98, an Indianapolis resident, passed away Friday, July 23, 2021. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 6, 1923 a daughter of Mary Jane (Anderson) McIntyre and James C. Cranley.

Helen was raised by her grandparents, Flora and Sanford Anderson in Mays, Indiana. She graduated from Mays High School in 1941 and attended Central Normal College in Danville, Indiana. She was employed at Chrysler Corporation’s Personnel Office in New Castle. She was elected and served two terms as New Castle Henry Township Assessor. As a citizen of New Castle, she served as a President of Henry County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, she served as President of the Parker Grade School PTA and was President of the New Castle Council PTA. She also worked 10 years as the Treasurer of the State of Indiana at the State Capitol Building in Indianapolis. Helen also served as a Girl Scout and Brownie Scout leader and worked on numerous philanthropic fund drives. She was a Gray Lady for the Red Cross during WWII. Helen was a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church in Carmel, Indiana. Helen retired in 1988 and lived in Indianapolis until her death.

She is survived by her children, Deborah Jane (Dann) Weaver, Connie Jo Dann, David (wife, Leslee) Dann; grandchildren, Ashley Winter (husband, Brian) Scott, Nicholas (wife, Kimberly) Dann; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Preston, and Justin Scott, Melanie Dann.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Marvin Dann, Harry VanDevender, and Delore Reklau; one grandchild, Andrew Winter.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Macer-Hall-Marcum & Moffitt Funeral Home, 2011 East Broad Street, New Castle with Pastor David Hewitt officiating. Burial will follow at Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland, Indiana. Friends may call from 11:00 until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
