Born December 18, 1952, in Richmond, Indiana, to Bearl A. and Thelma A. Mullen Steele, Bob was a life-long resident of this community. He served in the U.S. Army. Bob became the owner/operator of his family’s business, Steele’s Wrecker Service, following his father’s retirement. He also provided wrecker service at the Liberty Racetrack for many years. Bob loved racing and was a huge NASCAR fan. He enjoyed going to auctions, where he was always looking for a bargain and loved wheelin’ and dealin’. Bob was very generous and always willing to help others. He was especially good at connecting people with each other. Bob was very dedicated to his family and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his daughter, Julie Dillingham; stepdaughters, Ginger Ferguson, Brandi Newman, Angie Hemmelgarn, and Monica McKinney; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Diann Baker and Elaine (Jim) Dyer; nieces, Michelle Truitt, Christina Burnett, and Kim Baker; special brother-in-law, Ron Baker; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Terri Steele, who died in 2004; grandson; and parents.
Visitation for Robert L. Steele will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Brett Karanovich officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
