Herbert Lowell Shears Sr., 87, passed away at his home in Indianapolis on Sunday morning March 21, 2021 after an extended illness.  A son of the late Wesley F. Shears Sr. and Lola Mae (Reece) Shears-Dishman, Herbert was born in Dayton, Ohio on September 16, 1933.  He grew up in Dayton and later moved to Lewisville, Indiana where he attended high school. He has made his home in Indianapolis since 1974. Herbert enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged after his four year enlistment during the Korean War.  He then married the former Nancy Jo Jackson on December 30, 1956 at the Lewisville Presbyterian Church.  Following their marriage, Herbert enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on August 31, 1974 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.  After his military career, Herbert worked various jobs such as security and delivering heavy machinery for Sunbelt Rentals.  Herbert loved to spend time with his family, he was a “handyman” and enjoyed working on cars and watching NASCAR racing.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Nancy Jo Shears; 3 children, Don (Lisa) Shears, Herb (Kristen) Shears Jr. and Lisa L. Shears; 6 grandchildren, Alexandra, Sydney, Evan, Ethan, Mackensie and Jackson.

            Herbert was preceded in death by his step-father, Robert O. Dishman; 3 siblings, Wesley F. Shears Jr., Ruby Bennett and Annis Davis.

            Graveside services with military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday March 26, 2021 at Lewisville Cemetery- Lewisville, IN 47352.
