Helen “Mamaw Jean” Ramey, age 91, of Centerville, Indiana, went to be with her Heavenly Father Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at Reid Health.
Born March 7, 1929, in Boston, Indiana, to Leonard B. and Helen Hart Dils, Mamaw Jean was a life-long resident of Wayne County, Indiana.
She was proud of her nursing career and retired from Heritage House of Richmond in 1982 after the birth of her first grandchild. Mamaw Jean lived for her grandchildren and family, dedicating her life to their happiness and to her other passions, gardening and baking. This labor of love blessed so many; from her pies, cheesecakes, cookies, and even canned garden goods, she fed as many as she could. Her legacy will always be her giving heart and loving spirit. Our Mamaw will be profoundly missed.
Survivors include her children, Jackie (Tom) Hutchings of Richmond, Jennie (Joe) Wellman of Centerville, Jill (Ryan) Halloran of Richmond, and Jeff (Sherry Turner) Ramey of Centerville; grandchildren, Josh, Chrissy (Brian), Ryan (Ashtynn Saul), Wade (Miranda), Nick, and Sarah Jo (Corey); step-granddaughter, Stephanie Hutchings-Bishop; great-grandchildren, Alexia, Kiera, Liam, and Emmy-Jean; step-great-grandchildren, Ella, Maddie, and Taylor; sister, Evelyn Barbour of Jackson, Michigan; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John J. Ramey, who died January 6, 2020; parents; and several siblings.
There will be no public services for Helen “Mamaw Jean” Ramey. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Centerville.
