Emma Lou Shadle, passed away peacefully at the age of 92, on Thursday February 25, 2021.
Emma was born on February 17, 1929 in Riceville NY to Herbert and Lulu Hedges, and graduated from Centerville High School. She worked as an optometrist assistant for many years with Dr. Timpson. She ended her career at the age of 84 at Adaires, baking pies and waiting tables. She was a caregiver to several families in the Centerville area and help deliver meals on wheels, before moving to TN to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Emma married Richard Malcomb Shadle on February 21, 1947. Together they raised their children in Greens Fork, before moving to Centerville. Richard preceded Emma in death in 2013. Together they had 6 children, Richard Kelley, Kevin, Kim, Tracey, Siri and Teal.
Emma was a longtime member of the Centerville Christian Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She went on many mission trips to Haiti and Guatemala with an optometrist program fitting glasses to those in need. She enjoyed traveling where she and her sister Pat traveled to England, Ireland and many more places.
She was a member of the Centerville book club and a sorority and did not hesitate to volunteer her time when needed.
Emma is survived by two children, Richard and Kevin (Jane), four Grandchildren, Ryan (Key), Erin, Nick (Amy) and Beth (Rex). She was also blessed with 6 Great-Grandchildren, Alex, Zavier, Brody, Sofia, Rachel and Corbin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 5 siblings, Lee, Leslie, Paul, Lillian and Patricia.
Arrangements are being handled by Culberson Funeral Home. There will be no public visitation. A family internment will take place at the Centerville Cemetery at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Centerville Senior Center or your favorite charity.
