Mary Jayne Spurrier, 93, of Fountain City, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, at Reid Health.
She was born in Bellevue, Ohio on December 24, 1924 to Richard H. and Gertrude C. Crandall Griffith and had lived in Wayne County since 1925. She was married to Charles R. “Chuck” Spurrier on June 29, 1968. They shared 48 years together until his death on March 1, 2017. For 27 years, they enjoyed spending the winter months at their home in Sebring, Florida.
Mrs. Spurrier worked as a telephone operator during World War Two. She had formerly worked at all three Richmond Dairy Queens. She later worked as an inhalation therapist before taking a position in the Wayne County Clerk’s Office. She was very artistic and enjoyed doing crafts and painting. She loved animals and horseback riding, camping and working in her flower gardens.
Mrs. Spurrier will be missed by her children, Terry (Lynn) Hastings, Carolyn (Marvin) Himelick, Nancy Geier; Chuck’s children, Chuck (Judy) Spurrier, Becky (Steve Moore) Wogoman, Brenda (Chuck) Feaster, Ron (Sherry) Spurrier; 24 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
Mrs. Spurrier was preceded in death by her parents, husband. grandson, Scott Feaster; son-in-law, Danny Wogoman, one sister and two brothers.
Pastor Dave Anderson will conduct a funeral ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US Hwy 27, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Earlham Cemetery.
Family and friends may gather from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, at the funeral home.
