On Wednesday, July 29, Centerville officials announced a water boil advisory.
The town originally announced a smaller area, but around 3:30 p.m., expanded that order to the entire town.
Because of an emergency repair of a water main that services that area, it will be necessary for customers to be under a boil advisory until further notice.
Boiling water is needed to ensure that residents’ water for consumption is pure and free of any bacteria.
In order to achieve a good result, residents are urged to boil any water to be used for drinking or cooking, washing vegetables, etc. for at least 12 minutes at a rolling boil before using. There will be no need to boil water used for bathing or hand washing.
“We are sorry for this inconvenience, but this is necessary for the protection of your health,” Centerville Water Works said.
The initial area impacted was East Main Street to Crown Creek Boulevard from North Morton to North Fourth Street.
Discolored water
In addition to the bacteria issue, town officials say there might be discoloration of local water because of the water main improvement project. This will continue until further notice.
