Elbert Luther Stockberger, 83, of Hagerstown, went home to be with his Lord Friday, December 8, 2017. Elbert was born October 10, 1934 in Henry County to Fred and Gladys (Runyan) Stockberger.
Elbert retired from Perfect Circle (Dana) Corp. in Hagerstown. He was a member and deacon of White Branch Church of the Brethren where he truly loved serving God and doing his best to follow His Word. He loved gardening, self-sufficiency farming, and woodworking. One of his legacies is Stockberger Maple Syrup, which he began producing in 1954. He enjoyed spending time with his family more than anything.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Wilma (Prosser); five children: Fred Stockberger, Ann “Lisa” (Russell) Teeters, Robert (Sharon) Stockberger, Elbert (Barry) Stockberger Jr., and Bill (Cindy) Stockberger; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three sisters: Annalyn (Jack) Roemer, Judy Nirich, and Jane Meek; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter: Katherine Teeters.
A graveside service was held on Monday, December 11, 2017 at Cory-Bales Cemetery near Hagerstown with Pastor Brian Mackie officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Heifer Project International @ www.heifer.org. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
