Charles Richard Drury, age 72, of New Castle, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 after an extended illness.
He was born in Muncie, Indiana on November 17, 1947. Charles attended the Indiana School for the Deaf and graduated in 1965. Although Charles was born completely deaf, it never stopped him from enjoying life. In fact, one of his fondest memories was going to New Castle elementary schools and teaching American sign language to students.
Upon graduation, Charles moved to Los Angeles, California and worked for various factories including a map design company and a leather distributor. Charles moved back to Middletown, Indiana in the late 90’s to care for his mother. Charles loved model cars but most of all, he was a huge Indiana High School basketball fan and IU fan. One of his most prized possessions was an autographed photo of Coach Bob Knight.
Survivors include his beloved aunt, Mary F. Leitch, New Castle and several cousins including Cindy (Leitch) Perdue of New Castle and Susan (Leitch) Bennett of Indianapolis.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Margaretta J. Drury of Middletown and uncle, Richard H. Leitch, of New Castle.
Charles was very appreciative to all of his caretakers including doctors, nurses, social workers and guardians. He especially wanted to thank Henry County Hospital, Stonebrooke Rehab Center, Cindy Zimmerman, his long-time social worker and Nancy Webb from the Trustees Office.
