Dwight Reichart, age 88, a New Castle resident passed away Monday, July 6, 2020 at his residence. He was born December 25, 1931 in New Castle, Indiana and was the son of Dwight Daniel Reichart and Romaine M. Pringe.

Mr. Reichart was one of the unusual to join the Navy as a HSAR (High School Airman Recruit) where he served in the Korean War in VX2 at Chincoteague, Virginia NAAS air station from March 1951 until November 1954. He was plane captain of many types of aircraft and served as the only JD1 plane captain. He was chosen to be on the only 4 engine bomber to fly as a Drone. He met his wife, “Dottie” at the end of his Navy career and bought a new house in the Sunnyside area where they lived for many years. He also worked for Perfect Circle before being disable in 1972. He enjoyed reading, electric cars, automobiles, engines – anything to do with modern technology. He was way ahead of his time in many aspects of his life and always had a positive attitude on life.

He is survived by two sons, Duane Reichart of New Castle, Darin Reichart, of Spiceland; brother, Byron (wife, Maureen) Reichart of Bourbon, Indiana; two grandchildren, Evan Reichart of Lewisville, Indiana and Emma Reichart of New Castle.

Preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Reichart; a sister, Delores Sheets.
Visitation will be 1:30 – 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2020 at Macer-Hall Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, New Castle. Funeral services will be Friday 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Bill Palmer officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the VFW and American Legion. Burial will be at Hicksite Cemetery at a later date. On-line condolences may be made at www.macerhall.com.
