A Fountain City man has died after a crash north of his community on Wednesday morning (June 17).
At 8 a.m., Wayne County Sheriff’s Department responded to a motor vehicle crash at U.S. 27 North and Bockhofer Road north of Fountain City.
The crash involved a Ford F-150 driven by Robbie Lanter, 54, of Fountain City, and a Peterbilt semi pulling tandem box trailers driven by Justin Rankin, 38, of Muncie.
According to a press release from Wayne County Sheriff Randy Retter, an investigation at the scene indicated that Lanter was westbound on Bockhofer Road and for an unknown reason failed to yield the right-of-way of Rankin, who was northbound on U.S. 27.
Lanter’s vehicle collided with the semi-trailers being pulled by Rankin, Retter said.
Lanter was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Evidence found during the investigation indicated that Lanter was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, Retter said.
Rankin was not injured during the incident. He was taken to Reid Health for a routine blood draw, although there was no indication of intoxication, Retter said.
