LEWISVILLE – Berniece Stoops, 90, passed away Sunday afternoon October 8, 2017 at I.U. Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana.
A daughter of the late Mitchell and Bonnie (Jasper) Wesley, Berniece was born in Kingby, Kentucky on May 15, 1927. Berniece moved to Lewisville, Indiana when she was six years old.
She was a graduate of Lewisville High School with the class of 1945. Berniece had worked for Wesley’s IGA and Citizens State Bank in Lewisville and The Knightstown Dress Shop. She was a member of the Lewisville Presbyterian Church, Homemakers Club, Eastern Star and Brotherhood/Sisterhood all at Lewisville. Berniece retired to Lake Panasoffkee, Florida in 1985 and returned to Muncie at Westminster Village in 2008.
Survivors include her son, Jim (Sharon) Stoops of Florida; 3 grandchildren, Tiffany Hendrickson of Parker City, Tamara Stoops of Stanton, VA and Thaddeus Stoops of Modoc; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 3 sisters, Marie Saunders, Iva Haynes and Becky Conley; several nieces and nephews.
Berniece was preceded in death by her husband, David William Stoops on March 22, 2005. They were married on December 31, 1945 in Lewisville.; 1 brother, Earl Wesley; 2 sisters, Roxie Beatrice Mofield and Viola Dishman.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, Wednesday October 11th at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday October 12, 2017 at the funeral home. Rev. Arthur Whitaker will officiate. Burial will follow at the Lewisville Cemetery.
