Ronald Ray Houston, 59 of Glenwood, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, September 30, 2017, at Fayette Regional Health Systems from an apparent heart attack.
A son of Hobert G. and Pansy McRay Houston, Ron was born on October 16, 1957, in Batesville, Indiana.
He graduated from Connersville High School with the class of 1977 and was raised in and a member of Western Avenue Baptist Church. He attended Ben Davis Creek Christian Church in Rush County with his family.
On July 1, 1994, Ron married the former Debra “Debbi” Kay VanNess Moore in Fayette County, Indiana.
Ron was employed at Oberle Construction for 20 years where he was recognized as being a dependable employee and was on the “first call” list for emergencies and was always willing to perform any task available or requested of him. Ron retired from Oberle Construction as superintendent in 2013. Following his retirement, Ron worked at Gillman Home Center in Connersville. Ron was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for 30 years.
Ron enjoyed working on his computer and creating animated videos. A construction enthusiast, Ron took delight in building and fixing things. In his leisure time, Ron enjoyed camping at Manlove Park in Fayette County where he served on the Board of Directors. He and his wife worked as volunteers to restore the beauty of the park.
In 2012, Ron contributed his fantastic carpenter skills on the Randolph County Courthouse project where he was recognized for his passion for excellence and perfection. He was known as a true gentleman finish carpenter.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Debbi Houston; his mother, Pansy Houston of Connersville; children Tiffany Durham and fiancé Christopher Owens, of Richmond, Indiana and Justin Ray Houston and wife, Kim, of Indianapolis; step-children, Brian Moore and wife, Melissa, of Rushville, Katherine Kuhn and husband, Brian, of Noblesville, Indiana; grandchildren, Sydney Durham, Landon Owens, Madison Houston, Jacob Moore, Jaden Moore, Katie Turner, Cameron Storey, Mercedes Buchanan; a sister Anna Arnold and husband, Terry, of Falmouth, Indiana; two brothers, Vernon Houston and wife, Belenda, of Connersville, Reggie Houston and wife, Judy, of Peachtree, Georgia; several nieces, nephews and cousins.Ron was preceded in death by his father, Hobert Houston, on August 3, 2004.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Minister Howard Bullard officiated. Burial followed in Dale Cemetery. Friends called from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Ben Davis Christian Church or Western Avenue Baptist Church.
