CENTERVILLE, Ind. – John W. Merkamp, age 63, of Centerville, Indiana, died unexpectedly Thursday, September 28, 2017, at his home.
Born September 29, 1953, in Richmond, Indiana, to Kenneth and Alma Goodson Merkamp, John was a life-long resident of this community. He graduated from Centerville-Abington High School in 1971. John was a farmer. He was a member of the National FFA Organization, National Rifle Association, Loyal Order of Moose in Richmond, and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his daughter, Shannon (Tony Smith) Merkamp of Williamsburg, Indiana; sons, Eric Merkamp and Brad (Kelly Inman) Merkamp, both of Centerville; eight grandchildren, Courtney, Codie, Sebastian, Gage, Brad Jr., Kadyn, Paige, and Malaki; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Brenda (Jack) Radford of Greens Fork, Indiana, and Marie (Terry) Camden of Texas; brother, Malcolm (Pamela) Merkamp of Centerville; nieces; nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Norma Merkamp.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Centerville.
