Richmond, IN – James W. McNew, 90, of Richmond died September 3, 2017. He was born January 23, 1927 in Wildie, Kentucky to William E. and Angie Abney McNew. He was an Army veteran of World War Two, and formerly worked at Decca Records. He co-founded McNew Cabinet Craft with his brother Homer, with his sons James and Phillip joining the business in 1969.
Jim was known for his quality woodworking skills and his talent as an auto and motorcycle mechanic. He was a member of the Model A Restorers Club. He enjoyed traveling in his 1929 two door sedan and restoring cars. He also liked tending his garden. Survivors include his four children James B. (Diana) McNew, Phillip C. (NoraLee) McNew, Kathey J. (Bill) Dwyer, and Shirley McNew of Richmond, four grandchildren Jason B. (Jessica) McNew, Michael Brandon W. Owens, Melissa (Sean) Gallagher of Richmond, and Coy P. McNew of Davis, California, four great grandchildren Katelyn N. McNew of Richmond, Sidney K. Owens of Indianapolis, and twins Collin P. and Ava J Gallagher of Richmond, her sister-in-laws Mae Honaker of Waynesville, Ohio and Cleta Frederick of Lebanon, Ohio.
His wife of 69 years, Lissie, died May 7, 201. His parents, brothers Earl, Stanley, Homer, Edward, and Charles “Mac”, and his sisters Eva, Hazel, and Lula are also deceased.
Funeral services were 3:00 P.M. Friday September 8, 2017 at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Rev. John Shepherd officiating. Burial was in Elkhorn Cemetery. Friends called from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Reid Foundation for Hospice Care 1100 Reid Parkway Richmond, Indiana 47374.
