STRAUGHN, Ind. – James Lee Carty, 76, went home to be with our Lord, on Saturday, August 26, 2017. He passed away at home with his family by his side. He was born, January 25, 1941, to Homer and Velma Carty, in Straughn, Indiana. Known as “Skeeter” to his teammates, he played baseball for Straughn High School. In 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Howard. He served in the United States Navy, and was then employed as a machinist for Allison Transmission for 26 years. He was preceded in death by his sister, Wilma Selmeyer. He is survived by Linda, his brother, Roy (Mildred) Carty, children James (Mary Rose) Carty, Jane (Darrell) Whinnery, grandchildren Emily (Chris) Robinson, Mary Carty, Andrew Carty, Megan Whinnery and great grandson, Emmitt Robinson. Jim enjoyed his family, his church, and the great outdoors. He served as a Trustee and Deacon for Liberty Baptist Church, taught his children and grandchildren to shoot, hunt, fish and traveled frequently to Dale Hollow. He was an avid hiker and runner completing a full and several half marathons.In his poem, C.T. Studd said: “Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.” Jim demonstrated this sentiment through his tireless work with his church’s food pantry, and his support of Hope Children’s Home, in Tampa, Florida. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Liberty Baptist Church, 10450 E. County Road N, Indianapolis 46234. Visitation begins at 11:00 am with a short service to follow at 12:00.
