Richmond Board of Works approved several street closures for an upcoming road run at its Oct. 8 meeting. Administrative Resource Police Officer Aaron Stevens and volunteer Kris Wolski petitioned to close five north Richmond intersections for a “0.5K Fun Run” Fundraiser.

Intersections closed include North 10th and D; North Eighth and E; Fort Wayne Avenue and North D and Seventh; North Eighth and D; and North Ninth and D.

Hosted by the East Central Indiana RE Hub, the fundraiser will raise money for education on reusable items and recycling. Wolski described the family event as having all the glory of a regular 5K race without the length. Beginning at the Depot District’s Better Homes and Gardens building (900 N. E St.), the course will proceed through North E and end at the Model “T” Museum (306 N. Eighth St.). The course will even sport stopping stations along the way as well as paramedics for “medical assistance.”

The board approved three Richmond Fire Department contracts. The first with Impact Rescue LLC to provide custom Holmatro extrication equipment for fire engines at $56,762.00; the second with Anthony Kuhfaul for Fire Rescue I and II instruction training services at Richmond High School at $30 per hour; and with Reid Hospital & Healthcare Services Inc. to lease the use of Fire Station No. 6, 1501 NW Fifth St., for $1,500 a month.

Stevens presented an emergency road closure for renovations to the Norfolk Southern Railway at the 300 block of Industrial Parkway. The petition was approved with work to end Oct. 15 at the latest.

Lastly, the board awarded a demolition bid to B&B Construction for $22,500.00 for the property at 400 S. 12th St.

Board of Works meets Thursdays at 5 p.m. on the third floor chambers of Richmond’s Municipal Building, 50 N. Fifth Street. The public may attend.
