Winner: Centerville Fire Department’s junior cadet Nia Pettus won the Junior Firefighter competition at the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter Association Convention held June 17-19 in Indianapolis.

State awards: Wayne Co. Area Chamber of Commerce won four Innovation Awards at the Indiana Chamber Executives Association conference.

New officers: Cambridge City American Legion Post 169 installed officers for 2026-27: Eric Triplitt, commander; Tony Stewart, vice commander; John Harrod, vice commander; David Siggers, adjutant; Matt Stewart, sergeant-at-arms; Larry McDaniel, chaplain; and Tucker Hunt, service officer. Gary Hamm and Phil Hammond were honored for 50 years of membership.
Appointed: Purdue Extension announced Justin Curley and Becky Marvel as Region 7 Operations Leaders. They will supervise staff in Union, Wayne, Fayette and Henry counties.
Joined: Richmond Friends School welcomed veteran music teacher Dan Merkamp to its staff. The lifelong Wayne County resident has 35 years of music education experience.
