Western Wayne News journalists and photographers received multiple honors in the Best in Indiana Journalism awards competition for work the newspaper published in 2025.
Mike Emery earned first place in graphics and illustrations for a July 16 graphic detailing locations and updates for five housing subdivisions supported by a local housing accelerator program. The entry combined maps and project data to present complex development information clearly for readers.
Lorin Williams received second place in arts and entertainment writing for an Oct. 22 story, “Artist owns her moment,” profiling Richmond artist and retired teacher India Cruse-Griffin and her award at the Hoosier Salon, exploring her inspiration and community ties.
Chris Hardie placed third in criminal justice reporting for his coverage examining surveillance and communication technology in Wayne County, including license plate reader cameras and encrypted police radios, and their effect on public transparency.
Joshua Smith earned second place in the multiple picture group category for a July 2 series capturing highlights from the Wayne County 4-H Fair. Sherry Stuart received third place in sports photography for a Dec. 17 image of a key moment during a basketball game.
The Indiana chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists presents awards recognizing outstanding work produced by news organizations across the state. Western Wayne News competes in the division for publications with circulation below 10,000.
