Percussionists and color guards from Wayne, Randolph and Henry counties continued competing in area contests, and two Centerville and Hagerstown groups received high marks from judges.
Some participate through an Indiana organization, while others compete through an Ohio group.
IHSCGA performers
During Indiana High School Color Guard Association’s Saturday, Feb. 28, contest at Northview High School, Centerville’s Blue Wave finished first of nine schools in the third round of Regional A Class. The Blue Wave scored higher than Floyd Central, Greenwood, New Palestine, Brownsburg, Orleans, Southport, Decatur Central and Triton Central.
Additional area color guards competed Feb. 28 at Carroll High School. New Castle finished seventh of 10 schools in the second round of Regional A Class. Tri finished eighth of nine schools in the third round of Regional A Class.
Hagerstown and New Castle color guards competed Feb. 21 at Greenwood. Hagerstown earned gold in Festival Class.
New Castle finished fourth in the third round of Regional A Class behind Jay County, Mitchell and Orleans. Other competitors were Bloomington South, Southport, Brown County and Pendleton Heights.
Tri and Connersville performed that day in Brownsburg. Tri was fifth and Connersville was seventh in the second round of Regional A Class. Their competitors were Crawfordsville, Maconaquah, Plainfield, Brownsburg, Mount Vernon and Pike.

IPA
Hagerstown Indoor Percussion Ensemble began competing in the Indiana Percussion Association series of contests on Feb. 21 at Pendleton Heights. The Tigers earned silver.
They also earned silver during the Saturday, Feb. 28, contest at Greenfield-Central.
On Feb. 21, New Castle finished second in Percussion Scholastic Concert Open behind the host school, while Henry County Crimson Percussion was the only group in Percussion Independent A.

MEPA contests
Northeastern High School’s Damsels winter guard took a break Feb. 21 during the Mid East Performance Association season, but competed Sunday, March 1, at Springboro (Ohio).
The Damsels finished seventh of 14 schools in their division, one place behind Eaton (Ohio).
On Feb. 21, Winchester’s indoor percussionists finished third at Butler (Ohio) High School behind Grant County and Clinton-Massie in the Percussion Scholastic Concert A division. Winchester didn’t compete March 1.
