On Friday, Aug. 15, area football teams played in either scrimmages or in a jamboree to put the final touches on their game plans for the regular season, which will kick off in earnest on Friday, Aug. 22.

Scrimmages are scripted and allow each team to run a certain number of plays from the same spot on the field and are best suited for teams with rosters of at least 25 players. Jamborees are better suited for teams with low roster numbers and more closely resemble actual game conditions.

Cambridge City Lincoln participated in a jamboree hosted by Union City, while Centerville hosted New Castle in a scrimmage. The Eagles will host the Bulldogs on Friday, Aug. 22, in the regular-season opener for both teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Centerville head coach Ryan Cole gives final instructions to quarterback Jace Hollendonner before the start of the Bulldogs’ scrimmage against New Castle.

Hagerstown hosted Lapel in a scrimmage. The Tigers will host Knightstown on Friday, Aug. 22, in the regular-season opener for both teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Northeastern traveled to Decatur for a scrimmage with Bellmont. The Knights will travel to Liberty on Friday, Aug. 22, to face the Union County Patriots in the regular-season opener for both schools. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Richmond hosted Jay County for their scrimmage. The Red Devils will host longtime rival Connersville on Friday, Aug. 22, in the regular-season opener for both schools. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
