Six golf teams traveled to Richmond on Monday, Aug. 4, to kick off the fall sports season by participating in the Richmond Golf Invitational played at the Elks Country Club. East Central junior Rowan Pies, who finished in a tie for seventh place in last year’s state finals, fired a three-under-par 67 to capture medalist honors, but it was Richmond who captured the team championship.

The Lady Red Devils, paced by Hannah Stearley’s 78 round, used their superior depth to defeat second-place Union County by 19 strokes.

Richmond head coach Kyle Ingram said he was pleased with his team. “We have a great group of young ladies coming back this season,” Ingram said. “In fact, our whole team from last season returned. We are progressing as a program. We have a lot of talent and a lot of potential to get better. I am pleased with how we played in our first match.”

Richmond 367 (Hannah Stearley 78, Priya Hodges 93, Kyla Rogan 95, Emma French 101, Peyton Walton 110), Union County 386, East Central 403, Centerville 414 (Lilah Bellew 92, Emma Staton 95, Kinsy Isaacs 108, Raegan Jones 119, Grace Curts 119), Franklin County 419, Connersville 441 (Abigail Keal 98, Alaina Daniels 112, Allison Badore 115, Madison Smith 116, Lillian Boulware 123), Rushville (incomplete team)
