Jacob Powell, 34, of Laurel passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 20, 2020, at Rush Memorial Hospital, Rushville.
The son of Michael and Lori Hayslett Powell, Jacob was born in Connersville on October 1, 1985, and attended Connersville High School.
On April 28, 2007, Jacob married the former Rebecca Rose in Connersville. Mrs. Powell survives.
Jacob attended Buena Southern Baptist Church, Laurel. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, driving his truck, and spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed being on the river with family and friends. He loved playing with and making memories with his nieces and nephews as well as going to Cincinnati Reds games and Kings Island. Jacob was an avid collector and loved to bake and cook.
Jacob learned to weld in vocational school and was employed at Homan in Milroy where he enjoyed applying his welding skills.
A great husband and father, Jacob was loved by everyone that knew him.
Besides his wife of twelve years, Rebecca Powell, survivors include a daughter, McKenzie Powell; father, Michael (Julie) Powell; mother, Lori Powell; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Rita Rose of Laurel; grandparents, Betty Rose, Joyce and Robert Chance; brothers, Donnie Cameron of Cambridge City and Josh Powell of Connersville; sisters, Mary (David) Deal of Lewisville, Ashley Powell, Chelsie (Dakota) Powell, of Connersville; brother and sister-in-law, Derek and Angela Gibson; nieces and nephews, Aley, Destiny, Dylan, Neveah, Abbey, Aurora, Gracie, Nick, Makinlee, Christopher, Felix, and D’Kyrra; Jacob’s beloved dog, Rocky; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Jacob was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bernard and Dorothy Powell; maternal grandparents, Roland and Wilma Hayslett; an aunt and uncle.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Pastor Rob Edwards will officiate. Burial will follow in Laurel North Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at the funeral home.
