Four schools in Henry, Fayette and Union counties will compete at Indiana Academic Super Bowl in hopes of winning state championships.
The state competition takes place May 10 at Purdue University and challenges students to deepen their research and study skills.
Class 4: Tri is one of seven finalists for fine arts, and Union County is one of seven finalists in math.
- The Tri Titans will face North Judson, Churubusco, Westville, Three Oaks Christian School, Shakamak and Orleans. The top fine arts score was 21. Other area finishes: Union County (16), Hagerstown and Randolph Southern (15), Monroe Central (14), Union (Modoc) (9).
- Union County Patriots will face Indiana Academy in Muncie, Central Catholic, Hamilton, Morgan Township, Clinton Prairie and Fremont. The top score was 23 and the final qualifier had 21. Hagerstown was close behind with 20. Other scores: Monroe Central (15), Randolph Southern (9).
In science, teams with 20-22 points qualified for state. Other scores: Hagerstown (16), Randolph Southern (15), Tri (13), Monroe Central (11), Union County (8), Blue River (4).
In social studies, Union County earned the highest of area teams with 11 points. Others: Monroe Central and Tri (8), Union (Modoc) (7), Hagerstown (6), Randolph Southern (4).
Class 2: Connersville is one of five state finalists in English, and New Castle is one of six finalists in math.
Connersville will face Yorktown, Wawasee, West Lafayette and Western (Russiaville) for the English title.
New Castle faces East Noble, NorthWood, Gibson Southern, West Lafayette and Lowell for the math title. Connersville was two points short of qualifying in that category.
With 18 points in fine arts, Connersville was just shy of the minimum of 19 needed to advance. New Castle earned 13 in that category.
In social studies, Connersville scored 11 points and New Castle had 10, but scores of 17 or higher went to state. New Castle earned 10.
In science, Connersville and New Castle both scored 17, short of the 22 needed to qualify.
Class 3: Centerville, Northeastern and Winchester all missed qualifying for state.
- English: At least 17 points were needed for state: Centerville (12), Northeastern (11), Winchester (9).
- Fine arts: Score of 20 needed; Winchester, 19; Northeastern, 16; Centerville, 13
- Math: Minimum of 24 needed; Winchester, 20; Centerville, 16; Northeastern, 10
- Science: Score of 20 needed; Centerville, 14; Northeastern, 9; Winchester, 6
- Social studies: Minimum of 15 needed; Winchester, 13; Centerville, 11; Northeastern, 8
Class 1: Richmond competed, but didn’t qualify for state.
- Fine arts: RHS scored 19, just short of the minimum of 20 needed to qualify.
- English: At least 18 points were required to advance, and the Red Devils earned 11.
- Math: 24 or 25 points were needed; RHS had 18.
- Science: RHS earned 15, short of the 22 to 24 needed for advancement.
- Social studies: RHS earned 14; 19 points were needed.
